Rajasthan Royals batsman Shimron Hetmyer displayed excellent finishing ability. He did this under immense pressure against Punjab Kings. This was during their IPL 2024 clash on April 13.

RR made the chase tricky by losing wickets consistently. Meanwhile, PBKS batted first and scored 147/7. Their batting failed to perform well. For RR, the second innings began decently. Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal shared a 56-run opening partnership.

However, everything changed when they lost their first wicket in the ninth over. Their middle-order hitters struggled to get going against an older ball and went down without scoring much, leaving RR needing 43 runs in the final four overs.

Shimron Hetmyer joined the crease in the 17th over following Riyan Parag’s exit and took it upon himself to take the game deep for RR. He remained composed despite the fact that wickets continued to tumble at the other end and smashed boundaries at critical moments to secure the Rajasthan Royals’ safe road to victory. Hetmyer closed the game in style, hitting a four off the fifth ball of the last over against Arshdeep Singh.

Shimron Hetmyer showed happiness during the post-game presentation after collecting the Player of the Match award. Reflecting on his knock of 27* (10), he stated:

“I inside edged one onto my knees but I will be alright. It’s all about practice. I like batting properly and then when everyone is finished in the nets I go out and try hitting those sixes. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn’t but I am happy to pull off a victory for my team. Well they creep in in the first couple of balls.”

He continued:

“After that I just try to keep it as simple as possible. Yeah I would have taken the single. I was like even if I don’t get the other one and get a single. Even if we didn’t win it we could have tied it so it was always on the cards. While being away from family this is the only way you can keep yourself upbeat is by enjoying. I am waiting for my family to get here.”
