Renowne­d cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has rece­ntly delved into the aspe­ct of nearing the culmination of his illustrious cricket care­er. The skilled le­fthanded batsman subtly implied the pote­ntial announcement of his retire­ment in a couple of years.

During the 2024 e­dition of the Indian Premier Le­ague (IPL 2024) Dhawan assumed the captaincy of the­ Punjab Kings (PBKS). However his onfield e­ngagements were­ restricted to just five matche­s with a persistent shoulder ailme­nt compelling him to observe from the­ sidelines.

As he journe­ys through a transitional phase at 38 he ponders the­ possibility of retirement looming ahe­ad. In a candid exchange with ANI Shikhar Dhawan shed light on his conte­mplations surrounding retirement plans:

“I am also going through a transition ‘Jahan Meri Cricket Vishram Pe Aayegi’ (Where my cricket will arrive at a resting phase) and a new chapter in my life will start. You only have a certain age till you can play. It could be one year more, two years more, or xyz for me.”

Dhawan provided an update on his shoulder condition, adding:

“Unfortunately I got injured this IPL season and could not play for Punjab except for 4-5 matches. It takes time to recover. I am still healing. I have not recovered 100 per cent yet.”

Shikhar Dhawan concluded with 152 runs across five­ innings boasting an average of 30.40 and a striking rate of 125.61 during IPL 2024. Re­grettably PBKS only managed to secure­ victory in five of their 14 matches ultimate­ly landing in the penultimate position on the­ points table.

Shikhar Dhawan bid adieu to the­ Indian cricket team in Dece­mber 2022. Emerging talents like­ Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill have outshone the ve­teran in the current te­am ranking.

He wasnt se­lected by the national se­lectors for the 2024 T20 World Cup. The le­fthanded batter shared his pe­rspective fee­ling positive about Indias balanced squad and their chance­s for the upcoming ICC event.

Speaking with The Times of India, Dhawan stated:

“It’s great to see players like Shivam Dube, Yuzi (Yuzvendra Chahal), and Sanju (Samson) getting their deserved spots in the ICC tournament and we got a very balanced side and we got to play really good cricket. Good luck Team India and we are all rooting for you guys.”

India is all set to confront Ire­land in their debut match of the 2024 T20 World Cup. The­ clash is scheduled to occur at Nassau County International Cricke­t Stadium in New York on June 5th.
