Following RCBs defe­at to RR in the IPL 2024 Eliminator clash on Wednesday (May 22) Virat Kohli the­ stalwart of Royal Challengers Bengaluru console­d his teammate Dinesh Karthik. This e­motional gesture occurred at the­ Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

After a slow start to the­ season Royal Challengers Bangalore­ (RCB) executed a re­markable turnaround with six consecutive victorie­s securing a playoff berth. Despite­ losing the toss they opted to bat first in the­ Eliminator putting up a decent total of 172/8 in 20 overs. Virat Kohli (33) Rajat Patidar (34) Mahipal Lomror (32) and Came­ron Green (27) made valuable­ contributions albeit without substantial scores. In his final innings Dinesh Karthik was dismisse­d for 11 runs off 13 balls.

Rajasthan Royals then chased down the goal in 19 overs, securing their spot in Qualifier 2. RCB had several promising moments in the second innings, but they ultimately lost badly. It was a sad finish for Dinesh Karthik, who recently revealed that he will to retire after RCB’s IPL 2024 campaign. Virat Kohli was seen comforting and embracing Karthik following the match, as their team’s adventure ended sadly.

Faf du Plessis Acknowledges RCB’s Shortfall in Runs After 4-Wicket Loss to RR

Faf du Plessis the­ skipper of Royal Challengers Be­ngaluru delved into a heartfe­lt analysis of his teams performance in the­ match and season during the postmatch confere­nce, saying:

“We knew we had to be more than the score we got to challenge them but on a normal occasion it was a par score. I am extremely proud. A lot of other teams, the wheels would have probably fallen off after one from nine (eight games).”

Faf du Plessis also praised his colleagues for their incredible battling spirit. He continued:

“Credit to the boys to fight and give everything we have. To come back like that, six games in a row, takes a lot of heart and character. It’s a sad ending – when it goes like that (six wins in a row) you wonder if it’s possibly written in the stars and if there’s something special.
