Kumar Sangakkara the Director of Cricket for Rajasthan Royals (RR) expressed intense displeasure over the TV umpire’s contentious decision. The pivotal moment took place during the IPL 2024 Eliminator in Ahmedabad on Wednesday May 22 when Dinesh Karthik the wicketkeeperbatter for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) narrowly escaped an lbw dismissal. Tension mounted as Karthik under scrutiny was ultimately given the benefit of the doubt by the third umpire Anil Chaudhary.
The event occurred during the 15th over of RCB’s innings. Avesh Khan delivered a full-length ball, which Karthik played across the line. The ball struck the pad, and the on-field umpire ruled it out. The wicketkeeper-batter reviewed the ruling, and the replays revealed that the bat had hit the pads.
There was no advantage, but the television umpire believed differently. Kumar Sangakkara was unhappy by the decision in the dugout. Kumar Sangakkara appeared to want to meet the third umpire right away but was rejected by the officials.

The pundits, notably Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri, pointed out that the bat struck the pads rather than the ball.
With that, Karthik avoided a golden duck and Avesh Khan was denied consecutive wickets. The RCB hitter was finally eliminated for 11 runs off 13 balls, caught by Yashasvi Jaiswal off Avesh Khan in the 19th over.
RCB set a 173-run target for RR in IPL 2024 Eliminator
A great bowling display by RR led to RCB being limited to 172/8 in a 20over game. The contributions of Rajat Patidar (34 runs in 22 balls) Virat Kohli (33 runs in 24 balls) and Mahipal Lomror (32 runs in 17 balls) were vital. Additionally Cameron Greens valuable 27 runs coming off 21 deliveries played a significant role in the outcome.
In the recent matchup Avesh Khan shone brightly as the leading wickettaker for the Royals managing to secure three crucial dismissals despite conceding 44 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin on the other hand successfully bagged two wickets while Trent Boult Sandeep Sharma and Yuzvendra Chahal each claimed a single wicket.
Faf du Plessis and his team display a remarkable streak of six consecutive victories in the league phase of IPL 2024. Conversely Sanju Samson side has suffered defeats in four of their last five matches. Notably their most recent encounter against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was abandoned due to rain.
The triumphant team will advance to Qualifier 2 where they will go headtohead with SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) for the opportunity to compete in the IPL 2024 final. The table leaders KKR overcame SRH by eight wickets in Qualifier 1 securing their place in the final match.
