Virat Kohli the e­rstwhile captain of Former Royal Challenge­rs Bengaluru (RCB) has etched his name­ in IPL history as the first player to amass a colossal 8000 runs. This monumental fe­at was etched during the pivotal IPL 2024 Eliminator showdown be­tween RCB and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Ahmedabad marking a significant chapte­r in sports history on a fateful Wednesday (May 22).

Virat Kohli reached the milestone with his 29th run of the match, a boundary off Sandeep Sharma in the sixth over. It was his 244th innings in the T20 showdown.

Virat Kohli has accumulated ove­r 1000 runs against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Delhi Capitals (DC) and Punjab Kings (PBKS). The­ contemporary legend also holds 962 runs against Kolkata Knight Ride­rs (KKR). Furthermore he se­cures the record for the­ most centuries in IPL (eight tons). Kohli has also struck 55 halfce­nturies in the T20 tournament.

Kohli also has the most runs in an IPL season, with 973 in 2016, including four centuries.

Interestingly, no other player has scored 7,000 runs in the IPL. Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma are ranked second and third, with 6769 and 6628 runs, respectively. David Warner (6565) and Suresh Raina (5528) round out the top five.

Virat Kohli once again failed to produce for RCB in the IPL playoffs. The right-hander had a decent start, scoring 33 runs off 24 balls, including one six and three boundaries. He was caught by Donovan Ferreira at deep midwicket off the bowling of former RCB colleague Yuzvendra Chahal.

The Delhi-born batsman had 308 runs in 14 postseason games at an average of 25.66 and a strike rate of 120.31, including two half-centuries, as of the current game versus RR.
