Suryakumar is a cricketer for Mumbai Indians. He scored 102 runs from 51 balls. He did not get out. This helped Mumbai Indians win the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The match took place at Wankhede Stadium on May 6th.

Suryakumar Yadav rescued MI from a 31-3 deficit, and Tilak Varma played an excellent supporting role. The right-handed hitter had to be patient at first since Pat Cummins and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were delivering powerful spells. However, in typical manner, he quickly broke the restraints and batted at his regular speed.

After five straight dot balls to start the innings, the No.1 T20 hitter smacked six boundaries in his next nine deliveries to dramatically change the tide. As the combination between Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma developed, it seemed clear that MI would win.

At one time, however, it appeared that the right-handed hitter would simply miss out on the ton. In the 17th over, he made a final assault against Pat Cummins, hitting three consecutive boundaries. He then smashed a six against T Natarajan to reach the three-figure milestone and secure the points victory.

Suryakumar Yadav spoke on the significance of the knock after returning from a lengthy injury layoff and being named Player of the Match for his efforts.

He said:

“I’ve been doing this after a very long time. I think after 14th December, today is the day where I fielded for 20 overs and batted for almost 18 overs. So, it is a little bit tired, but hopefully tomorrow it will be better. I feel that it was the need of the hour today, three wickets down when I came in and someone had to be there till the end, and that is what I did.”

The century comes at an ideal moment for Team India, as the 2024 T20 World Cup draws closer. He still has a few matches to improve his form before the end of the 2024 IPL season.

“I knew that the dew was heavy, and once the seam goes off, it will be easy for a batter to play, so I just enjoyed my time. I played a lot of first-class cricket for Mumbai and a lot of games at the Wankhede, I know what’s the right option when the ball is seaming. When the ball stopped seaming, I played all my shots which I practice in the nets.”
