Suryakumar Yadav hit a brilliant hundred. This helped Mumbai Indians (MI) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by seven wickets. The match was played at Wankhede Stadium on May 6, 2024. This was Mumbai’s first win after four straight losses. The result has made the race for the playoffs very close. Sunrisers were the visiting team in this IPL match. Suryakumar’s big score was the key for Mumbai’s victory.

Sunrisers Hyderabad were full of confidence after upsetting league leaders Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their previous meeting. Hardik Pandya’s decision to bat first reduced their powerful batting unit to 96-5 from 56-0. SRH were struggling to reach 150 runs at one point, but were boosted by Pat Cummins’ cameo toward the end to finish on 173-8.

MI struggled against the moving new ball, as Sunrisers Hyderabad took three wickets during the powerplay. After being reduced for 31-3, it appeared that MI would stumble in a home run chase, as they did lately against the Kolkata Knight Riders.

However, Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav ensured that the chase went smoothly and led MI to victory with 16 balls to spare.

Fans emphasized how MI’s victory impacts several other clubs and keeps them in contention for the playoffs. Here are a few reactions:

“SRH’s net run-rate has been hurt like Indian fans on November 19,” one fan wrote.

“SRH are not the same since they last met CSK,” one tweet read.

“This srh loss was much needed to keep the competition alive,” one fan remarked.

Sunrisers Hyderabad has some tough games ahead. They will play against Lucknow Super Giants, Gujarat Titans, and Punjab Kings. Their loss to Mumbai Indians was their last away match. SRH will play their final three league games at home in Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

“Probably a couple short, at the Wankhede you want as many as you can get. You always feel like you’re in, the wicket had a little bit in it so we were definitely in the game. I think Sanvir helped us get to that 170 instead of 150, ideally we’d have a bowler. It’s T20 cricket, and it doesn’t always work out. SKY played really well. We like playing at home, we’ll wait and see what’s ahead of us.”

Pat Cummins

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s next match against LSG on Wednesday, May 8, might be critical in determining who advances to the playoffs. LSG is sixth in the points table, behind Sunrisers Hyderabad only by net run rate.
