According to sources, Indian opener Shubman Gill was hospitalized in Chennai after his platelet count plummeted.
While he is expected to miss India’s 2023 World Cup encounter against Afghanistan on October 11 in Delhi, his participation in the main game against Pakistan on October 14 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is also in doubt.

“Shubman Gill’s platelet has dropped and he has been admitted to a hospital Chennai as a precautionary measure. BCCI’s medical team is also monitoring him.”

The 24-year-old cricketer’s platelet count decreased before India’s next World Cup match against Afghanistan, according to the article.
Shubman Gill was unable to play in India’s first match against Australia on Sunday, October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai owing to sickness. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) gave an official health update on Gill on Monday, confirming that the batter would not be traveling to Delhi but would instead remain under the care of the medical staff.
“Team India batter Shubman Gill will not be travelling with the team to Delhi on 9th October 2023. The opening batter who missed the team’s first fixture in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 against Australia in Chennai is set to miss the team’s next fixture against Afghanistan in Delhi on the 11th of October. He will stay back in Chennai and will be under the supervision of the medical team,”

On the eve of India’s first World Cup match against Australia, team captain Rohit Sharma stated that he wants the batter to recover from his sickness and is not concerned about whether or not he would play.

Shubman Gill has been outstanding in one-day cricket in recent months, forming an excellent partnership with skipper Rohit. In 35 one-day matches, he has scored 1917 runs at an average of 66.10 and a strike rate of 102.84, with six hundreds and nine fifties. The 24-year-old has also hit a double hundred, with a high of 208.
In Gill’s absence, Ishan Kishan batted first against Australia but got out for a golden duck. India were battling at 2/3 after two overs, chasing 200. Virat Kohli (85 off 116) and KL Rahul (97* off 116) then combined 165 for the fourth wicket to give India a historic victory against Australia.
