The Gujarat Titans faced an early setback in their innings. Matthew Wade (1) was dismissed, caught behind off Mustafizur Rahman’s bowling in the very first over.
Gill scored his first boundary in the second over, pulling a length ball from Shardul Thakur past midwicket for four. In his sixth over, he swept Axar Patel for a six over backward square leg.
Kuldeep Yadav bowled Vijay Shankar (13) just after the powerplay. However, Gill and then-GT captain Hardik Pandya (31 off 27) contributed 65 runs for the third wicket.
The former stormed to a 32-ball fifty in the 13th over, flicking Kuldeep for a single in front of square. In the following over, he went on Khaleel Ahmed and smashed him for four consecutive runs.
Shubman Gill initially sliced a length ball past extra cover before lapping the following ball cleanly for another boundary. Pandya died on the final ball in the same over, but Gill went on. He smashed the opening ball of Kuldeep’s 15th over down the ground for a maximum.
In the following over, the Gujarat Titans opener hammered Axar for two sixes. The first was blasted across the line for an 83-meter six. The second was smashed over the bowler’s head because Axar failed to get his line and length correct. Shubman Gill’s excellent innings came to an end when he was caught at deep midwicket off a slower delivery from Khaleel.
Delhi Capitals set a target of 172. However, they struggled to achieve it, managing only 157-9. Ferguson, the pacer, stood out with impressive figures of 4-28. Meanwhile, Shami took 2-30. Rishabh Pant, Delhi’s captain, top-scored with 43 off 29 deliveries. But his efforts weren’t enough to secure victory.
