Virat Kohli, a key player for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), showed great fielding skills. He stopped Shahrukh Khan from Gujarat Titans (GT) from batting more. This happened during their IPL 2024 match. The match took place on Saturday (May 4) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

It was a pivotal moment in the opening innings of the contest. Shahrukh Khan was on 37 (24) runs when the visiting team’s top order fell. Coming in at number four, Shahrukh Khan kept the scoreboard ticking with five fours and one six during his innings.

However, he was unable to convert it into a larger one due to a misunderstanding when racing between the wickets with his batting partner, Rahul Tewatia. Tewatia moved the ball toward offside with gentle hands on the fourth delivery of the 13th over, setting Shahrukh Khan up for a simple single.

Rahul Tewatia did not believe there was a run, hence he turned down Shahrukh’s call. RCB fielder Virat Kohli dashed towards the ball and delivered a fantastic direct hit to catch Khan short of the wicket.

After being assigned to bat first, GT got off to a dismal start, with RCB bowlers reducing them to 19/3 in 5.3 overs. Shahrukh Khan (37) and David Miller (30) then rescued the innings and added momentum with a 61-run stand for the fourth wicket.

They returned to the pavilion without completing the job in the 12th and 13th overs, dashing GT’s chances of achieving a good score. Rahul Tewatia then rallied with the lower-order batting to lead Gujarat Titans to 147.

Mohammed Siraj (2/29), Yash Dayal (2/21) and Vijaykumar Vyshak (2/23) were the RCB bowlers’ choices. Vijaykumar remarked on his team’s bowling performance at the mid-innings break, saying:

“Well quite happy because the team has done really well. The start we got from Siraj and Dayal set it up and it was great to restrict them under 150. We stuck to the plan of banging into the surface.”

Vijaykumar Vyshak continued:

“It was a cutting a bit, was and a bit two paced so we tried very hard with the bouncers. We got a couple of wickets for that. I am working hard with the fielding coach, I hope I can keep performing. It’s a bit swollen, left hand and right hand both swollen but I should be okay. We are pretty sure we are going to get this total.”
