Fans reacted angrily to Delhi Capitals’ poor fielding performance against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Wednesday, May 17. However DC defeated PBKS by 15 runs in their last second match of the season.
The Delhi Capitals batted first after losing the toss in the 64th match of the IPL 2023 at Dharamsala. Rilee Rossouw’s 82* (37) propelled them to a tremendous total of 213/2. Prithvi Shaw (54), David Warner (46) and Philip Salt (26*) all made significant contributions.
Shikhar Dhawan was subsequently dismissed for a golden duck by Ishant Sharma, giving DC a strong start in the second innings. The Delhi Capitals’ fortunes deteriorated from there owing to self-inflicted blunders on the pitch.
They dropped numerous catches of Atharva Taide (55) and Liam Livingstone (94) and gave them too many lives. The duo cashed in on the multiple lives and hammered the bowlers around the field.
Liam Livingstone almost made the Capitals pay for their shoddy fielding by keeping Punjab Kings in the game till the last over. The aim became too much for him in the end, since there was no backup for him.
After watching DC’s dismal fielding attempts against PBKS, fans were quite unhappy. They mocked the Delhi players for it on Twitter with their comments.

DC captain David Warner on poor fielding
After the game, Delhi Capitals captain David Warner said that his team’s fielding performance against PBKS was subpar. He stated:
“It was a pretty bad fielding performance, to be honest. Great to get the win. We went out in the middle and used the powerplay, played our shots to score some runs. It’s been challenging at home with some inconsistent wickets.”
Warner then praised Prithvi Shaw and Rilee Rossouw for their outstanding contributions to the batting lineup. He went on to say:
“It’s great to see the impact Prithvi had, he deserves a special mention, and even Rossouw as well. Defending 130 and twice under 150, it’s one of those things that you want a bit of consistency at your home venue. We almost chased against the Sunrisers as well. It’s just great to get the points again tonight.”
On Saturday, May 20, the Delhi Capitals will meet CSK in the last league match of the IPL 2023.
