Mumbai Indians (MI) were beaten by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by five runs in another thrilling Indian Premier League (IPL) match on Tuesday, May 16, Due to Mohsin Khan’s performance. LSG moved up to third place in the IPL table, while MI dropped to fourth.
On a decent surface, LSG reached 177/3 in their first innings at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. LSG’s top run scorers were Marcus Stoinis (89* runs off 47 balls) and Krunal Pandya (49 runs off 42 balls). Stoinis hit a swashbuckling half-century that featured four boundaries and eight sixes at a strike rate of 189.36.
In response, the MI openers, Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma, set up a 90-run partnership, hitting 59 runs off 39 balls and 37 runs off 25 balls, respectively. However, in the middle overs, Ravi Bishnoi knocked out both batters to put an end to the MI innings (4-0-26-2).
Tim David cameoed well (32* runs off 19 balls), but his efforts were undone by Mohsin Khan’s last over. Khan delivered a brilliant last over, allowing only 11 runs to be scored while bowling to power hitters like David and Cameron Green.
On that topic, let’s take a look at three of Mohsin Khan’s best IPL spells.
1) LSG vs KKR, IPL 2022 – Mohsin Khan (4 – 0 – 20 – 3)
Mohsin Khan’s spell proved to be the difference between the two sides in a contest remembered for Quinton De Kock’s sparkling hundred (140* runs off 70 balls), Evin Lewis’ superb catch, and Rinku Singh’s heroics. Khan conceded just 20 runs in four overs at an economy rate of five runs per over in a contest in which both sides scored more than 200 and LSG won by two runs.
Venkatesh Iyer and Abhijeet Tomar were both dismissed by Young Khan’s superb new ball spell. The kid struck the ball early on and returned after the inning to strike out the deadly Andre Russell. Thus, Mohsin Khan’s excellent spell proved to be the game-winner for LSG.
2) LSG vs DC, IPL 2022 – Mohsin Khan (4 – 0 – 16 – 4)
Mohsin Khan’s miserly spell against DC was also vital for LSG in a high-scoring thriller. DC managed 189 runs while chasing 196, giving LSG a six-run victory. Mohsin Khan gave up only 16 runs in four overs, at an economy rate of four runs per over.
David Warner, Rishabh Pant, Rovman Powell, and Shardul Thakur were all dismissed by Khan, who also claimed four key wickets. He bowled Warner with the new ball, gave the breakthrough in the middle overs by removing Pant’s stumps, and then returned in the death overs to bowl Powell and Thakur. He received the POTM award for his outstanding spell.
3) LSG vs KKR, IPL 2022 – Mohsin Khan (3 – 1 – 6 – 1)
Chasing 177, KKR got off to a horrible start thanks to Mohsin Khan’s brilliance, as the teenager bowled a stunning maiden wicket in the KKR innings’ first over. Baba Indrajith, who mistimed a pull shot, was disqualified by the left-arm pacer. He gave up six runs at a two-run economy rate in three overs.
He got 14 wickets for LSG in nine IPL 2022 matches at an economy rate of 5.97. The teenager is a promising future for India, with the ability to swing the ball when it is new and bowl yorkers and slower balls towards the death overs.
