Eleven individuals, including Prithvi Shaw, an opener for the Delhi Capitals cricket team, have been served a notice by the Bombay High Court in response to a plea by social media influencer Sapna Gill concerning the controversial selfie incident. Shaw claimed that Gill and her associates assaulted him and his companions when he refused to take a selfie with her at a Mumbai nightclub in February.
Shaw was captured on video brandishing a baseball bat during the altercation. He subsequently filed a complaint against Gill, resulting in her arrest, but she was released on bail shortly afterward. Gill is currently seeking to have the FIR against her, which was filed by Shaw, dropped through a petition to the high court.
Live Law reported that Sapna Gill’s lawyer, Ali Kashif Khan, has stated that Prithvi Shaw’s intention to file an FIR was solely to evade the molestation accusations made against him. Khan has also requested the court to direct the police to preserve the CCTV footage of the bar where the altercation occurred.
It is worth noting that Gill has been charged with rioting, extortion, and criminal intimidation. Recently, the Bhojpuri actress filed a criminal complaint against Shaw and his friend Surendra Yadav, accusing the 23-year-old cricketer of sexually assaulting her.
Prithvi Shaw’s Ongoing Struggle with the Bat in IPL 2023
Prithvi Shaw has not been able to meet the expectations with his batting performance in the ongoing IPL 2023. Despite a good domestic season prior to the tournament, the right-handed opener has only managed to score 34 runs from four innings, with a poor average of 8.50. This is disappointing considering he was expected to take on the bulk of the scoring responsibility in the absence of regular captain Rishabh Pant.
It remains to be seen if Shaw can bounce back and deliver strong performances in the remaining matches of the season. Unfortunately, Delhi Capitals have had a disastrous start to their campaign, losing all four of their matches so far. The team is yet to secure a point and currently occupies the last position on the IPL 2023 points table.
The team led by David Warner will play their next match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in an afternoon game at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, April 15th.
