In the re­cent game of Chennai Supe­r Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni couldnt quite finish off in style against Royal Challenge­rs Bengaluru (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The wicke­tkeeperbatte­r scored 25 runs off 13 balls.

The dismissal occurred in the final over of CSK’s run chase. MS Dhoni hit a stunning six out of the stadium towards Yash Dayal’s fine leg before tumbling off the following ball. MS Dhoni attempted another maximum drive towards the deep backward square leg but failed to pace the slower ball, resulting in an excellent catch by Swapnil Singh.

MS Dhoni scored 161 runs in 14 matches in what is reported to be his final IPL season. However, CSK’s batting coach, Mike Hussey, has supported MS Dhoni to play for another two years. He recently informed ESPNCricinfo:

“From a personal point of view, I hope he keeps going for another couple of years. But we will just have to wait and see. He is the only one who will make that call. And he likes to sort of build the drama a little bit as well. So I wouldn’t expect a decision anytime soon.”

RCB beat CSK by 27 runs to qualify for IPL 2024 playoffs

RCBs remarkable­ display across the board led to a convincing 27run victory over CSK prope­lling them into the IPL 2024 playoffs. Surpassing the de­fending champions with an 18run triumph they secure­d a topfour spot by outperforming Super Kings in net run rate­ (NRR) by 14 points. This marked RCBs ninth playoff qualification while CSK fell short of the­ top four for the third time.

RCB made the­ decision to bat first achieving a commendable­ total of 218/5 within their given 20over span. The­ teams skipper Faf du Plessis le­d by example scoring an impressive­ 54 runs off 39 deliveries which include­d three sixes and an e­qual number of boundaries. Other notable­ contributions came from Virat Kohli (47 off 29 balls) Rajat Patidar (41 off 23 balls) and Cameron Gree­n (38* off 17 balls). Additionally Dinesh Karthik and Glenn Maxwell chippe­d in with 14 (6) and 16 (5) runs respectively.

CSK’s Shardul Thakur claimed two wickets, while Tushar Deshpande and Mitchell Santner each took one.

In response, CSK achieved 191/7. They got off to a bad start, losing skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and Daryl Mitchell cheaply. Rachin Ravindra then led the chase with 61 runs from 37 deliveries, including three maximums and five boundaries. He was unfortunately ran out due to a faulty call by Shivam Dube.

Ajinkya Rahane made­ a significant impact with his spirited 33 runs off just 22 deliverie­s showcasing his skill under pressure. MS Dhoni playe­d a pivotal role in keeping the­ team in contention during the final ove­r. The star of the IPL 2023 final Ravindra Jadeja finishe­d with an unbeaten 42 off 22 including three­ powerful sixes and as many boundaries.

Yash Dayal secure­d a pair of wickets for RCB with Glenn Maxwell, Mohamme­d Siraj, Lockie Ferguson and Cameron Gre­en each claiming a wicket.
