Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fielder Daryl Mitchell pulled off an incredible juggling catch in the outfield during the first innings of the IPL 2024 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on a sunny Saturday at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. This jawdropping moment not only entertained the crowd but also led to Rajat Patidar dismissal who was on a batting spree.

The incident occurred on the fourth delivery of the 18th over, delivered by CSK bowler Shardul Thakur. Rajat Patidar attempted a lofted shot towards the long-on zone following a full toss to keep the scoring tempo up.

He was able to achieve the proper time with his shot because Daryl Mitchell judged the catch well and finished it just inside the ropes after a juggle.

RCB batted first in Saturday’s encounter after losing the toss. Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis got them off to a terrific start, combining for 78 runs. Du Plessis battled with rhythm during their stand, as the ball swung wildly for a time. It did not stop Kohli, who scored a superb 47 (29) to keep the scoreboard ticking for the hosts.

Following their exits, Rajat Patidar took over and hammered the bowlers all over the field, giving RCB a platform to score more than 200 runs in the must-win match. Rajat Patidar raced to 41 (23) before falling in the 18th over.

Cameron Green (34) then led the RCB side to 218 with a couple of cameos. During the interval, Green pondered on what had happened in the first innings, saying:

“The wicket was quite tough. Even when the ball went into the wicket, it bounced quite a bit. Hopefully it stays that way (in the second innings). (On the ball spinning prodigiously after the rain break) It was pretty crazy out there.”

“Faf and Virat batted beautifully. They gave us a platform to explode from. After the rain, there was a bit of turn, not sure why. (On the target they had) You don’t really set yourself a target. With the extra batter, you can go earlier. In the 14-15th, that is when you start to go and try to hit the ball as hard and as far as you can.

CSK had reached 85/3 in 9.1 overs of the chase at the time of writing.
