Rajasthan Royals (RR) spinners Keshav Maharaj and Yuzvendra Chahal appeared to strangle Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Shubman Gill in their trap during the IPL 2024 match between the two sides in Jaipur on Wednesday, April 10.
Gill was well prepared and had already altered gears by blasting Chahal for back-to-back boundaries on the opening two deliveries of the chase’s sixteenth over. Maharaj then moved near Chahal and appeared to give him some guidance.
Shubman Gill was unable to get any bat on Yuzvendra Chahal’s following ball, which was broader and turned more away from outside the off-stump. Although it was a wide ball, Sanju Samson caught it well and dislodged the bails, leaving Gill safely stuck.
Keshav Maharaj and Chahal’s joy hinted that they had persuaded the GT skipper to join their plot.
Here are stills from both before and after Gill’s dismissal:
Gill looked dangerous, and it would take something exceptional to send the right-hander back to the pavilion. Chahal once again shown why he is regarded as one of the most cerebral bowlers, encouraging the batter to pursue a wide ball.
Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia win the game for GT after Shubman Gill’s departure
Gujarat required 66 off 28 balls when Shubman Gill was removed, and it appeared that RR had put themselves in the driving seat to win the game by removing the set batsman. GT is famed for its lower middle-order rearguard action, and another one was on show on Wednesday.
Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan contributed 38 runs off 14 balls for the seventh wicket, turning the chase on its head. With two runs required off the penultimate ball, Rashid smashed Avesh Khan’s delivery to the point boundary, snatching victory from RR.
