Gujarat Titans (GT) were all out for a mere 89 runs. The Delhi Capitals (DC) dismissed them at the Narendra Modi Stadium, during the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) on April 17, Wednesday.

Rishabh Pant put GT in to bat first. The home team was doomed from the start, losing their skipper Shubman Gill for eight runs in the second over. From there on, GT disintegrated, despite the return of Wriddhiman Saha and David Miller to the playing XI.

Gujarat were reduced to 30/4 and were unable to recover in the middle overs due to Delhi spinners Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav’s unrelenting approach. GT even attempted to strengthen their batting lineup by deploying their impact sub option in the early half of the game. However, Shahrukh Khan, who came out to bat in the ninth over, was forced to leave for a duck after a questionable dismissal.

Rashid Khan batted hard and scored 31 runs off 24 deliveries, including the innings’ only six. The all-rounder was one of only three hitters to reach double digits for GT.

The Capitals bowled as a unit, with four bowlers sharing nine wickets. Sumit Kumar contributed with an athletic effort to remove Sai Sudharsan.

Twitter slammed GT’s poor batting performance, stressing their over-reliance on Shubman Gill. Here’s some reactions:

Gujarat Titans have taken shouts for low scoring game seriously,” one tweet read.

Looks like the whole GT squad practiced only against Ricky Ponting’s son,” one fan remarked.

GT is the most boring team of the IPL,” another tweet read.

DC has strong memories of the Narendra Modi Stadium, having defeated the Gujarat Titans in the 2023 season as well. The David Warner led team successfully defended a target of 131, winning by five runs.

Mohammed Shami created havoc in the first innings with a 4-11 spell, and most expected the Hardik Pandya-led team to cruise to victory. However, Khaleel Ahmed dismissed Wriddhiman Saha for a six-ball duck in the opening over, setting the tone for DC.

The tournament also included Ishant Sharma’s legendary knuckleball to Vijay Shankar, as well as Hardik Pandya and Abhinav Manohar’s measured knocks. Rahul Tewatia had a seven-ball 20-run cameo, but it came too late for the Titans.
