GT had a difficult situation following Gill’s departure, as they required 59 runs from the final 24 balls. Rahul Tewatia (22) kept the visiting team in the game by hitting timely shots and taking it deep.

Shah Rukh Khan (14) aided him briefly before dying in the 18th over. Rashid Khan (24*) then put his team over the line on the penultimate ball of the encounter with a scorching cameo, handing RR their first defeat of the season. GT captain Shubman Gill remarked on the victory after the match, saying:

“We were targeting 45 in the last three overs. That is what our mindset was. Mathematically, we thought that it was possible. It makes a difference if you have an extra batter there. I would have loved to finish this game but I am happy with the way Rashid bhai and Rahul bhai played. We were a little behind the game today, but we managed to win it off the last ball.”
