Retired out is a term that is gradually gaining popularity in the current era of cricket. If the batsmen is struggling in the middle, this regulation allows them to retire. A ball is not counted when this wicket falls.

The team might opt to call any batter back and send another batter out in the middle as per their strategy. If a batter is retired, he or she cannot bat again in the same inning.

We will look at five occasions in men’s T20 matches where a batsman was retired out:

1) Atharva Taide retired out in IPL 2023

PBKS required 214 runs and Taide’s strike rate was just slightly higher than 130, team management chose to ‘retire out’ and called Taide back. PBKS lost the game by 15 runs.
