Tom Moody, a former Australian all-rounder and member of the 1999 World Cup-winning team believes that Sam Curran has performed exceptionally well as the temporary captain of Punjab Kings. Curran was asked to take over as captain after Shikhar Dhawan was injured and has led the Kings to two victories in four games. He was particularly impressive during their 13-run win over Mumbai Indians on Saturday, scoring 55 runs in just 29 balls and helping his team reach a total of 214 runs in 20 overs. Moody thinks that Curran deserves much credit for his leadership, especially since he has never captained before.

Tom Moody stated about Curran:

Sam Curran is showing some really good leadership skills, particularly for someone who has not experienced leadership before. He’s captaining a team in the IPL – the biggest T20 tournament on the planet – and is doing it very, very well.”

Upon being awarded Player of the Match, the 24-year-old believed the honor should have gone to Arshdeep Singh. Arshdeep had impressive figures of 4-0-29-4 and delivered a remarkable final over, successfully defending 15 runs against Tim David and Tilak Varma.

“Sam Curran recognised that maybe that was not his night”: Tom Moody

Moody also praised Curran for keeping his ego aside and letting the others do the job as he went for 41 runs in three overs and no wickets. He elaborated:

“Sam Curran felt that he was not quite on song tonight. That shows good leadership to look at the broader picture at what’s available. Sam was going nearly 14 an over, so he had an expensive night with the ball, which is unusual for him, and recognised that maybe that was not his night, so he shared that responsibility, and he had the resources to do it.”
