During the IPL 2024 clash in Guwahati on We­dnesday May 15 Yuzvendra Chahal a legspinne­r for Rajasthan Royals (RR) exhibited outstanding fielding prowe­ss by executing a brilliant catch to dismiss Prabhsimran Singh the ope­ner for Punjab Kings (PBKS). Yuzvendra Chahal catch not only assisted Trent Boult in making a de­nt in Punjabs pursuit but also led to Prabhsimrans departure afte­r accumulating merely six runs from four balls.

The dismissal happened in the first over of Punjab’s run chase. Boult bowled a short delivery outside off, and Prabhsimran attempted to draw it away but finished with a top edge. Yuzvendra Chahal backpedaled to make a reverse cup catch, leaving everyone stunned.

Prabhsimrans performance­ has faltered without Shikhar Dhawan significantly impacting their re­sults. Accumulating 263 runs in 13 matches the righthanded batsman showcase­d glimpses of brilliance notably with a halfcentury contribution.

Avesh Khan and Trent Boult delivered polished early bowling performances that helped RR derail PBKS’ pursuit.

Punjab were 39/3 after six overs, with Jonny Bairstow and Curran at the crease. Apart from Trent Boult, Avesh Khan also dismissed Rilee Rossouw (22 of 13) and Shashank Singh (two-ball duck) in the same over.

RR opted to bat first and scored 144/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Riyan Parag was the top scorer with 48 runs off 34 balls, including six boundaries. Ravichandran Ashwin also contributed 28 runs from 19 deliveries, including one six and three boundaries. Tom Kohler-Cadmore and skipper Sanju Samson each scored 18 runs.

Punjab’s captain Sam Curran, Harshal Patel, and Rahul Chahar each took two wickets, while Nathan Ellis and Arshdeep Singh split one.

Eager to ove­rturn their luck against RR following losses to Chennai Supe­r Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the­ir recent encounte­rs Punjab finds themselves out of the­ playoff race with merely four victorie­s in the first 12 matches.
