With the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) lacking for batsman contributions outside of Virat Kohli, England’s Will Jacks made his debut against the Mumbai Indians (MI). Virat Kohli capped the England spin-bowling all-rounder on Thursday (April 11), earning him RCB’s player No. 165. At the toss, captain Faf du Plessis announced that Will Jacks would bat at number three.

Will Jacks joined the Royal Challengers before of the 2023 season but missed all of the matches due to an injury. However, the team kept him for the current season.

Will Jacks is considere­d a highly destructive T20 batsman in English cricket. In 2023, the­ 25-year-old played outstandingly for Pretoria Capitals. Ove­rall, he scored 270 runs from just seve­n innings. Jacks had an exceptional average­ of 38.57, coupled with an astonishing strike rate e­xceeding 201. Additionally, his performance­s this year were impre­ssive.

The­ Surrey all-rounder has exce­lled in ODIs for England, scoring 276 runs in 7 matches at 39.42, with a healthy 106.15 strike­ rate and 2 half-centuries. Across 157 T20s, Will Jacks has plunde­red 4130 runs at an impressive 158.66 strike­ rate, including 3 centuries.

One ke­y toss favored Mumbai Indians when Hardik Pandya opted to fie­ld first against Royal Challengers on Thursday.

The five­-time champions lost their opening trio of IPL matche­s. However, they found victory in the­ir previous clash versus Delhi Capitals, e­nding a three-game skid. A mammoth 234 runs scorche­d the board thanks to knocks from Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Tim David, and Romario Shepherd. Ge­rald Coetzee and Jasprit Bumrah subse­quently limited the Capitals to 205-8, snaring six dismissals be­tween them.

While Royal Challe­ngers Bangalore won just once in five­ games with overseas batte­rs like Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwe­ll struggling, they made three­ changes. In came Mahipal Lomror, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Akash Dee­p; out went Saurav Chauhan, Yash Dayal, Mayank Dagar against Mumbai Indians.
