Virat Kohli once again broke a record for his home country in the ODI format of cricket as he moved into the top position on the list of highest run counts in one ODI world cup.

It was a record that surpassed even that of idol and greatest of all time, Sachin Tendulker who scored 673 runs off 11 games in the 2003 World Cup staged in South Africa. It happened in 2023 when Virat Kohli took on New Zealand during a semi-final of the World Cup. This is his record of the highest number of fifty plus scores per an edition.

Virat Kohli recently tied Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI hundreds and has now broken another, establishing his domination as one of the finest hitters the game has ever seen.

India needed their big guns to step up in a key semifinal against New Zealand, and that has definitely been the case at the time of writing. Rohit Sharma’s spectacular cameo of 47 at the top of the order dispelled any doubts that their camp might have had.

Following his blitz, Shubman Gill maintained the attack and reached his half-century. Despite the fact that he departed injured on 79, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer had kept the Indian innings going.

Iyer grabbed his opportunities, hitting some deliveries into the stands, and reached his half-century in 35 balls. Virat Kohli, on the other side, is closing in on a record 50th ODI century, the most by anybody in the format’s history.

The Men in Blue would like to go as close to 400 runs as feasible. Knowing that tackling the Indian pacers under lights would be difficult, the Kiwis will need to find a method to limit the hosts.
