In the men’s ODI batting rankings, Shubman Gill has surpassed Babar Azam to take the top place. Mohammed Siraj has displaced Shaheen Shah Afridi from the top spot and moved up two ranks to become the highest-ranked bowler in the One-Day International format.
With Kuldeep Yadav now in the top five, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami in the top ten, and Virat Kohli rising three spots to No. 4 among the batters after two undefeated centuries and four half-centuries at the World Cup, the top of the bowling table actually has a decidedly Indian appearance.
Shubman Gill stellar performance
In 26 matches this year, Shubman Gill has amassed 1449 runs from four hundreds, including a double century. He has had an outstanding year in ODI cricket. Compared to his lifetime average of 61.02, he has an astounding 63.00 average for the year. After being removed from the World Cup at the beginning due to dengue, he had a poor start. However, he has since amassed 219 runs in six innings, including fifty against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
Babar has been performing well in the World Cup having scored four half centuries in eight innings. However Gills remarkable rise has created a competition making it necessary for Babar to step up his game in order to retain the position he has held for, over two years.
Looking at it from Indias perspective Gill has become the player to achieve the top ODI batting ranking, in ICC rankings joining the ranks of legends like Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni and Kohli.
