Wriddhiman Saha of the Gujarat Titans (GT) surpassed Vijay Shankar to hit the quickest fifty for his team against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Sunday, May 7. Saha’s half-century came in 20 balls, surpassing Shankar’s milestone of 21 balls.

The right-handed batter hit 81 runs off 43 balls, including four sixes and ten boundaries, for a strike rate of 188.37. In addition, the 38-year-old had a 142-run partnership with opening partner Shubman Gill to put GT in control.

In the 12th over, Saha was caught by Prerak Mankad at deep square leg off the bowling of Avesh Khan.

Wriddhiman Saha’s stunning knock against LSG pleased social media users. Even former India and Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli couldn’t resist uploading an Instagram story. He captioned the photo:

For those who are unfamiliar, Saha has had an outstanding form with the bat in IPL 2023, hitting 257 runs in 11 games with a strike rate of 137.43.

GT retained the Bengal wicketkeeper for Rs 1.9 crore following his batsman heroics last year when GT won their first IPL title in their first season.

During the 2022 season, Saha scored 317 runs in 11 games with a strike rate of 122.39, including three half-centuries.

Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill’s flawless batting performances enabled the Gujarat Titans to score a magnificent 227/2 in their allocated 20 overs after being asked to bat first.

Gill, for instance, scored 94 runs off 50 balls with a strike rate of 184.31, including seven sixes and two boundaries.

Meanwhile, GT skipper Hardik Pandya and David Miller each scored 25 (15) and 21* (12).

Avesh Khan and Mohsin claimed the only two wickets in GT’s innings for LSG.
