Former Australian opener Matthew Hayden has been full of praise for Gujarat Titans (GT) star Shubman Gill, expressing his belief that the young batsman has the potential to dominate world cricket for years to come. Gill further showcased his importance for the Titans by scoring 67 off 49 balls and guiding them back to victory against Punjab Kings (PBKS). A target of 154 may have looked achievable for GT, but they kept losing wickets at regular intervals just when a partnership looked like it was taking shape. Hayden mentioned Gill’s role in keeping up the inning’s momentum even while wickets were falling at the other end.

“Gujarat Titans needed someone to take responsibility and bat deep in this run chase against a quality Punjab Kings bowling attack, and Shubman Gill did just that. Some of the shots that he played were pleasing to the eyes. He’s such a class player, and he’s going to dominate world cricket for the next decade or so.”
Simon Doull praises GT’s star finishers
The match got a bit too close for comfort for the Gujarat Titans as they needed just four runs from two balls. But Rahul Tewatia kept his cool and made a cheeky ramp shot that sealed the win for his side. Simon Doull, the former New Zealand cricketer and commentator, believes the experience of players like Tewatia and David Miller is what’s helping Gujarat in such tight spots. He said:
“David Miller and Rahul Tewatia are the guys who get the job done for Gujarat Titans whenever there’s a requirement. They did for GT in TATA IPL 2022 and repeating the same in 2023.”
