Rohit Sharma, once leading Mumbai Indians (MI), shone brightly with his bat against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash at Wankhede on Sunday, April 14th. The right-handed batsman steadfastly amassed an unbeaten 105 runs from merely 63 deliveries. His innings sparkled with five soaring sixes and eleven crisp boundaries.
Rohit reached his century with a clean boundary against Matheesha Pathirana in the twentieth over. The pacer produced a full-length ball, which the batsman smacked towards extra cover for a boundary.
The 36-year-old opted not to celebrate when his side lost the plot against the Super Kings during the pursuit. The MI dugout, including skipper Hardik Pandya and support staff, got up to cheer Rohit’s lone battle.

MI Falls Short Despite Rohit Sharma’s Brilliant Century
Rohit Sharma hit a hundred but it was not enough as Mumbai Indians were beaten by defending champions Chennai Super Kings by 20 runs in the IPL on Sunday. The score they chased was 207. While Rohit scored big, he did not get support as wickets fell regularly at the other end. Tilak Varma made 31 off 20 balls. Ishan Kishan scored 23 from 15 deliveries. Tim David made 13 off just 5 balls.
For CSK, Matheesha Pathira was the star bowler, taking 4 wickets for just 28 runs. Tushar Deshpande and Mustafizur Rahman claimed one wicket each.
At the start, CSK scored 206 runs after losing 4 wickets in their quota of 20 overs as they batted first. Ruturaj Gaikwad led the way, amassing 69 runs off 40 deliveries, smashing 5 maximums and 5 boundaries. Meanwhile, Shivam Dube remained unbeaten on 66, consuming 38 balls, and hitting 2 sixes along with 10 fours.
MS Dhoni supplied the late assault with an unbeaten 20 off four, including a hat-trick of boundaries that sent CSK beyond 200. Meanwhile, Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell contributed 21 (16) and 17 (14), respectively.
Pandya took two wickets for MI, while Shreyas Gopal and Gerald Coetzee both claimed one.
