Rohit Sharma the former captain of Mumbai Indians (MI) displayed signs of sluggishness with the bat before conceding his wicket to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2024 match at Eden Gardens on Saturday. His innings of 19 runs off 24 balls at a strike rate of 79.17.
For those unfamiliar, the dismissal occurred in the eighth over of MI’s run chase. Compared to Varun Chakaravarthy, Rohit Sharma seems bewildered. After missing the reverse and switch hits, Rohit went for the traditional sweep, but ended up with a thick top edge that carried straight to the fielder at short fine to his right. Rohit Sharma’s shot on that occasion lacked conviction.

Rohit Sharma recent performances in the last few IPL matches have taken a downturn. Recording scores of 6 8 4 11 4 and 19 (as of today) the righthanded batsman has accumulated 349 runs from 13 innings. Notably he showcased his prowess with a century against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Table-toppers KKR defeated MI to officially become the first team to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs. They presently have 18 points after nine victories in 12 games.
Batting first the Knight Riders managed to put up a total of 157/7 in just 16 overs. It wasnt a great start with openers Phil Salt and Sunil Narine failing to deliver. However Venkatesh Iyer stole the spotlight scoring 42 runs off 21 balls including two sixes and six boundaries.
Nitish Rana Andre Russell and Rinku Singh gave it their all tallying 33 (23) 24 (14) and 20 (12) runs respectively. Not to be outdone Ramandeep Singh ended the game unbeaten with a brisk 17 off six.
Jasprit Bumrah and Piyush Chawla were MI’s leading wicket-takers, with two each. Nuwan Thushara and Anshul Kamboj took two wickets each.
In response, Mumbai scored 139/8. Ishan Kishan was the highest scorer with 40 from 22 deliveries, hitting two sixes and five boundaries. Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir also contributed with 32 (17) and 17 (6), respectively.
Harshit Rana, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Andre Russell each took two wickets for KKR, with Sunil Narine taking one.
