Kolkata Knight Riders players Venkatesh Iyer and Andre Russell had a mix-up. This made Russell get run out. It happened when they played against Mumbai Indians. The match was at Wankhede Stadium on May 3rd.
Venkatesh Iyer played a reverse ramp shot. The ball was fuller from Hardik Pandya. Venkatesh Iyer hit the ball to Jasprit Bumrah at short third man. Iyer first thought of taking a single run. But then he sent back Russell. Russell was running towards the striker’s end.
Jasprit Bumrah paused for a bit before deciding which end to throw to, ultimately aiming for the non-striker. The throw was off target, so Hardik Pandya had to react swiftly and dive to dislodge the bails before Andre Russell could make his ground.
Here’s a video of Russell’s runout:
Andre Russell had hit an uppercut for a six off Pandya on the opening ball and appeared to be in the mood to create more damage. However, his wicket thwarted Kolkata’s aspirations to erupt at the backside.
Venkatesh Iyer top scores with 70(52) as KKR get bowled out for 169
The ball seemed to halt a little on the Wankhede Stadium surface, which contributed to the hosts’ early success. Nuwan Thushara took the key wickets of Phil Salt, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, and skipper Shreyas Iyer.
Hardik Pandya then came into the attack and took Sunil Narine’s wicket. When Piyush Chawla removed Rinku Singh, it appeared that Kolkata may be swept out swiftly at 56/5. However, the visitors used Manish Pandey as an impact substitution, and the seasoned hitter helped to solidify their innings with Venkatesh Iyer.
The pair scored an important 83 runs for the sixth wicket. When Manish Pandey was removed in the 17th over, the stage was set for KKR to have an exciting finale. However, Jasprit Bumrah’s brilliance cost them the victory, as they were swept out for 169.
With dew as a potential issue, Mumbai may like their chances of catching it handily. However, if Kolkata takes early wickets, they may make things difficult for the hosts.
