The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) will face off in the IPL 2024 final on Sunday May 26 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Both teams secured the top 2 positions on the points table following consistent performances.
KKR leading the table then comfortably defeated SRH by eight wickets in Qualifier 1 to progress to the finals. The Hyderabad team received another opportunity to reach the summit clash by competing against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Qualifier 2. The Royals ousted the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by triumphing over them in the Eliminator.
The SunRisers secured a commanding 36 run triumph in the second qualifier against RR on Friday (May 24) securing the opportunity to challenge KKR in the grand finale of IPL 2024. Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer recently shared his perspective on the IPL 2024 final predicting Kolkata Knight Riders as the favored team to clinch victory. His reasoning revolves around the teams comprehensive strengths in all areas of play and the outstanding performances delivered by multiple key players.
Speaking with ESPNcricinfo, Jaffer stated:
“KKR will be the favorites because they are a well-rounded team. They have batting depth, and lots of players are in form. The spin department is strong, and fast bowling is doing exceedingly well. Mitchell Starc’s form is very good. However, KKR lost a game in Chepauk, so Sunrisers will also be confident. The spin department bowled in the last game, so it will increase their confidence.”
