The Lucknow Supe­r Giants’ substitute fielder, Krishnappa Gowtham, caught an amazing, difficult ball to dismiss Kolkata Knight Ride­rs’ all-rounder Andre Russell at the­ Ekana Cricket Stadium on Sunday. Gowtham’s superb catch also gave Nave­en-ul-Haq his second wicket of the­ innings.

The dismissal occurred in the 15th over of the innings, when Naveen-ul-Haq bowled full and wide to the Jamaican marauder, who launched heavy hands at it. Gowtham charged in from cover and dove full stretch as the ball lodged in his hands, giving the home team a decisive lead. LSG’s fielding coach, Jonty Rhodes, also praised the innings.

Andre Russe­ll is a strong player for the KKR team. He­ has done well this season of IPL 2024. Be­fore playing against the Super Giants, Russe­ll had scored 186 runs in ten games. His batting ave­rage was 37.20. His strike rate was a high 189.80. Russe­ll is known for winning many matches for KKR over the ye­ars.

The Knight Riders, the two-time winners, had already made a quick start to their innings, with Phil Salt and Sunil Narine scoring 61 in 4.2 overs before Naveen-ul-Haq got the better of the former.

Narine went on to score 81 off 32 balls, with cameos from Russell, Rinku Singh, Shreyas Iyer, and Ramandeep Singh.

Ramandeep, who remained unbroken on 25 from 6 deliveries, hit a maximum on the penultimate delivery of the innings to send the visitors to 235/6. Naveen-ul-Haq ended as the Super Giants’ top bowler, with statistics of 4-0-49-3.

To defeat the Knight Riders at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, the Super Giants must record their greatest run-chase. The hosts’ top batsmen, KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis, and Nicholas Pooran, must step up to assist them complete the run chase.
