Experienced Indian bowler Mohammed Shami has chosen colleagues Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma as the best and most dangerous batsman on a global scale, respectively. Both Kohli and Rohit led the scoreboard in the 2023 ODI World Cup hosted at home, accumulating 765 and 597 runs each.

Just so you know, Shami topped the charts at the ICC event by snatching 24 wickets in seven matches! His amazing average was 10.71. He even took five wickets, not once, but three times! However, since the grand finale, an ankle issue has kept this fast bowler out of action.

During an engagement at News18 India’s ‘Chaupaa’ event, the 33-year-old was asked who the world’s top batter is right now. He quickly responded:

“Virat Kohli is the best batsman in the world. Virat has just broken a lot of records. I feel Virat is the best.” He went on to add, “And Rohit Sharma is the most dangerous batter in the world.”

When questioned who the superior captain was, Shami confessed it was a challenging decision. In the end, he chose MS Dhoni.

“Look, it is a tough question. These things start with comparisons, but you will say that the one who is most successful (is the best captain). So for me, it is MS Dhoni because no one has been as successful as him.”

During the occasion, Shami also discussed India’s pacers’ outstanding performance in the ODI World Cup, claiming that the groundwork for success was established back in 2013-14.

“People talk about the performance of the bowlers during the World Cup, but, if you have to look at the overall picture, you have to go back to 2013 and 2014. That is where the journey started. If we look at the facts now, we only had three fast bowlers performing in the World Cup this time, which makes us believe that we have set the benchmark for future bowlers.”

In the 2023 ODI World Cup, Shami led in taking the most wickets. Yet, Jasprit Bumrah also shined brightly in the same tournament. He bagged 20 scalps in 11 playing opportunities and averaged 18.65.

Mohammed Shami didn’t make it into the team for the initial two England home series Tests. It seems unlikely he’ll play in the remaining three either.

The word is, our right-arm bowler is in the UK mending an ankle. Chances of him being match-fit for the last three games are slim.

We expect the Indian team announcement for the final three England Tests to be this coming Thursday, February 8.
