Because it is a leveller, they do not attempt to manipulate the findings to their advantage. The 34-year-old also discussed Australia’s poor fielding against Scotland following their nerve-racking five-wicket victory at Gros Islet.

With England overcoming Namibia earlier on Sunday, Scotland just needed a victory or no result to go to the Super 8. After Josh Hazlewood hinted at losing to Scotland to remove England from the competition, there was still a potential that Australia might lose their final group match.

Speaking after Sunday’s match, Mitchell Starc feels England is in a separate Super 8 group, thus the outcome is irrelevant. The Sydney Morning Herald cited him as saying:

“You don’t stuff around with Mother Cricket and try to worry about other results. We’re here to win games. England are now on the other side of the draw, so it really doesn’t make that much difference for the next three games. That was blown right out of proportion.”

The left-arm bowler went wicketless against Scotland, who gave Australia a challenging 181 to win. Travis Head top-scored with 68, and Marcus Stoinis added 59 as the 2021 T20 World Cup champions won with two balls to spare.

With Australia losing a stunning six catches against Scotland, Starc believes it is beneficial to have a terrible day on the pitch early in the competition. He added:

“We were just terrible. We were certainly off the mark in the field with dropped catches and probably some other areas that were a bit sloppy as well. [It’s] good to get that stuff out of the way, and now we’re into the pointy end.”
