Jasprit Bumrah, the Team India pacer, recently underwent a successful operation in New Zealand. Dr. Rowan Schouten, a renowned orthopaedic surgeon who has served cricketers such as James Pattinson and Jofra Archer, oversaw the surgery. Bumrah has been struggling with his back for almost a year, ruling him out of major commitments like the 2022 Asia Cup in the UAE and the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia. He has had no competitive matches since September 2020.

Rumours of a possible return for Bumrah had been circulating for a few months. However, it soon became clear that the injury was more serious than initially thought. Eventually, the star bowler had to undergo surgery in order to fix the problem.

According to a report from Cricbuzz, Jasprit Bumrah will be out of action for almost 24 weeks due to surgery. As a result, he is set to miss the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL), the 2023 Asia Cup, and the World Test Championship (WTC) final in June if India qualifies for it. However, there is hope that Bumrah will have fully recovered by October-November when India will be hosting the 2023 ODI World Cup on home soil.

Reports have surfaced that Bumrah has undergone a successful surgery, though the hospital has yet to make any official statement regarding this. “Any questions regarding Jasprit will be best directed to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI),” Cricbuzz quoted a hospital official as saying.

BCCI has yet to release an announcement regarding India’s star fast bowler Bumrah. Still, reports suggest that he may return to the nets in August, giving him enough time to get back into form ahead of the ODI World Cup.
