Gautam Gambhir, two-time IPL-winning captain and mentor of Global Super Giants, praised KL Rahul on Tuesday, March 7th, in anticipation of the IPL 2023 season. Describing Rahul as a “stabilizing force” for the Lucknow Super Giants, Gambhir expressed his confidence in the player’s abilities despite his current underwhelming performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Noting that Rahul had recently been dropped from the third Test after only managing 20, 17, and one run in his three innings during the first two Tests, Gautam Gambhir expressed his belief that the LSG would be lucky to have someone like Rahul leading their team in the upcoming IPL season.
“We are very fortunate to have someone like KL Rahul, who has a very stable and balanced head. I wish I had it, I did not have that. I was very extreme, but it did work for me. For a franchise like Lucknow, it is important to have someone like KL at the helm. Going forward, this is going to be a massive positive for us.”
“It starts with the captain. The captain is the flag bearer of the team. It is the captain’s team. All of us in the dressing room are there to support him. No support staff is under as much pressure as the captain. It is the body language of the captain that will decide how we perform.” He further continued.
Rahul’s next match will be the three-game ODI series against Australia, beginning at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 17th, if he is not included in the fourth Test squad.
LSG will kick off their Indian Premier League 2023 campaign against the Delhi Capitals on Sunday, April 1. The team advanced to the Eliminator round during the last T20 tournament.
