The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) maintained their domination at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, defeating the hosts Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Match 10 of the IPL 2024 on Friday, March 29.

The victory also ended the tradition of home teams winning all games, as KKR became the first visiting side to win in the IPL 2024.

Despite Virat Kohli’s undefeated 83 in the first innings, Kolkata pulled off a fantastic victory. However, he failed to form a long-term relationship with anybody, and Cameron Green’s 33 was RCB’s second-best solo score.

Dinesh Karthik blasted three sixes in the final two overs, propelling the home side to a daunting total of 182/6.

KKR began their run chase in spectacular form. Phil Salt (30) and Sunil Narine (47) nearly ended the game early, combining to score 85 runs during the powerplay. Two Iyers, Shreyas (39*) and Venkatesh (50), then combined for 75 runs before the former blasted the winning six to secure the deal.

On that point, here are three major records broken during the just finished RCB vs. KKR match.

1. Andre Russell Makes History as First Pacer to Claim 100 Wickets for KKR

While he did not bat, Andre Russell helped KKR by dismissing Cameron Green and Rajat Patidar. He was also his team’s most economical bowler, with a fantastic spell of 2/29 in four overs.

Russell’s two wickets make him the first pace bowler to reach 100 for the Knight Riders. In 113 appearances, the Caribbean all-rounder has taken 101 wickets at an outstanding bowling strike rate of 14.88.

Russell, who is more known for his power hitting, has also become the first overseas player to get 100 wickets and 2000 runs in the IPL.

Only Sunil Narine (183) has more wickets for the franchise than Russell.

2. KKR are now the joint-most succesful team vs RCB at M Chinnaswamy Stadium

In May 2015, the Royal Challengers defeated KKR in an IPL match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Since since, the historic Bengaluru stadium has served as KKR’s hunting ground.

On Friday, KKR won their eighth T20 game against RCB at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, making them the joint-most successful franchise on the list. KKR now joins the Mumbai Indians (MI), who have won eight games at the stadium versus RCB.

Apart from that, this was KKR’s 19th IPL triumph over the Bengaluru side. With this win, they currently have the second-best record versus RCB, trailing only CSK’s 21.

3. Virat Kohli is now the top six-hitter for RCB in IPL

Virat Kohli once again put on a display at his home stadium, scoring an undefeated 83. On his way to his knock, the contemporary master hit four boundaries and as many maximums.

Virat Kohli broke an important record in RCB’s history. He already scored most runs for the team. Now, Kohli became the player who hit most sixes too, in RCB’s 16-year IPL journey.

On Friday, Kohli slammed four big hits over the fence. This took his IPL six tally to 241 – the highest for any RCB player ever. Incredibly, he surpassed his pals Chris Gayle (239 sixes) and AB de Villiers (238) in this elite list.

Not just for RCB, Virat Kohli is 4th overall in IPL history for most sixes hit. His 241 maximums put him ahead of the great MS Dhoni’s 239 soaring strikes.
