Dinesh Karthik, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru keeper-batsman, had a spectacular performance to lead his team to its maiden IPL 2024 victory on Monday at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The veteran smashed a boundary right back past the bowler, Arshdeep Singh, to seal a thrilling victory.

The event occurred in the innings’ penultimate over, when there were only 10 runs to be scored off the last six deliveries. The veteran hit a scoop shot for six to turn the game around for his team. With Arshdeep giving a wide the following ball, Dinesh Karthik hit the third delivery for a four, sending the fans into a frenzy.

Earlier, the Bengaluru-based team won the toss and chose to field first. Mohammed Siraj and Glenn Maxwell each took two wickets to limit the Punjab Kings to 176 in their allotted 20 overs, with Shikhar Dhawan scoring 45 off 37 deliveries. Prabhsimran Singh, Sam Curran, and Jitesh Sharma made significant contributions.

The 38-year-old, who finished undefeated on 28 off 10 deliveries, praised Mahipal Lomror (17* off 8) for his contribution in aiding the Royal Challengers reach the objective. He informed the host broadcaster:

“Little bit (dusting off the rustiness). I wasn’t completely in control but getting there. We needed that (knock from Lomror), Anuj batted well last time but when Mahipal walked out.. he took the pressure off me. He (Harshal) is a wily customer, he has the dipping slower one and if you missed that you are a goner, I had to wait to play the scoop.”
