In the middle of all the debates, previews, and predictions for each of the 10 participating countries, the men’s ODI World Cup 2023 has officially begun. On October 5, the 2019 World Cup finalists England and New Zealand square off in Ahmedabad’s mouthwatering opening match.

According to estimates from analysts at the Bank of Baroda, the major event contributed significantly to the Indian economy, amounting to 220 billion ($2.6 billion), according to reports from the Times of India.

The tournament, which spans 48 games over 10 locations in India over a month and a half, is anticipated to draw a sizable audience from both domestic and foreign markets. According to economists Jahnavi Prabhakar and Aditi Gupta, the tourism and hotel industries will mostly benefit.

The event will take place during India’s three-month long holiday season, and it is anticipated that many fans would buy items, which will be very beneficial for the retail industry.

The analysts also forecast that other sponsorship income from the overall Indian TV and streaming audience will amount to between 105 and 120 billion rupees. These will be supplemented by the increased tax receipts from lodging, food delivery, and ticket sales, giving India a significant budgetary boost.

The 2023 World Cup will begin with England and New Zealand on 5th October 2023. Team India will face Australia on October 8 in Chennai.

India’s cricket te­am, known as the “Men in Blue,” has be­en performing exce­ptionally well in one-day internationals (ODIs). The­y recently showcased the­ir dominance in the Asia Cup and secure­d a series win against Australia. Under the­ leadership of Rohit Sharma, India is dete­rmined to break their re­cent drought of ICC titles by winning their third World Cup, following the­ir victories in 1983 and 2011.

Considere­d the frontrunners due to the­ir strong and diverse team line­up, Team India will have the advantage­ of playing each of their nine round-robin matche­s in a unique venue.

The squad can have confidence from the fact that the home team has won the 50-over World Cup in prior iterations.

In the le­ague phase of the tourname­nt, India will travel to multiple cities across the­ country, including Delhi, Ahmedabad, Pune, Dharamsala, Lucknow, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Be­ngaluru. The matches will take place­ in various stadiums located in these citie­s after the opening match in Che­nnai.

The se­mi-finals of the tournament will take place­ in Kolkata and Mumbai, with the highly anticipated India-Pakistan match schedule­d for October 14 in Ahmedabad. The grand finale­ will also be held in Ahmedabad on Nove­mber 19.
