Prabhsimran Singh Punjab Kings seasoned opener bid adieu after a stellar halfcentury due to Heinrich Klaasens exceptional fielding finesse in the primary innings of the IPL 2024 showdown against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday (May 19). This highvoltage encounter unfolds at the iconic Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Prabhsimran Singh laid the groundwork for PBKS with an aggressive knock of 71 (45), and he appeared to be on track for more. On the second delivery of the 15th over, thrown by leg-spinner Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, Singh stepped out from the stumps, hoping to make room for a huge shot. The bowler pursued him, but Prabhsimran continued with his hit.

However, he was unable to make the connection because the ball rose after hitting the pads and brushed the gloves along the way. Heinrich Klaasen evaluated the catch well and finished it with a dive.

PBKS captain Jitesh Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first in the match on Sunday afternoon. Atharva Taide (46) and Prabhsimran Singh (71) got the visiting team off to a solid start, batting together for 97 runs in 9.1 overs. Natarajan made the first breakthrough for SRH, removing Taide in the tenth over.

The Sunrisers received little relief following the wicket, as Rilee Rossouw (49) joined Prabhsimran Singh and continued to score quickly. Before Singh left in the 15th over, the partnership had put together 55 runs for the second wicket. Jitesh Sharma then concluded the game on a triumphant note with a blistering cameo that propelled his team to 214.

Atharva Taide reflected on the first innings during the break:

“It was really coming on to the bat well. I think we’ve got to a good score. I had some butterflies but as I saw the wicket, I saw it was coming really good. I could’ve scored more. It’s a good score, that’s what we believe. But it’s a new-ball game. If we take early wickets, we can put the pressure on the batters. The ball is holding a bit on the surface too.”
