In the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) Gujarat Titans (GT) unleashed devastation upon the injurystricken bowling lineup of Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The defending champions suffered a heavy blow yielding 231 runs in a crucial faceoff at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday May 10.

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad broke his toss curse and chose to bowl first. However, without Deepak Chahar, Mustafizur Rahman, and Mathessha Pathirana, the bowling unit failed to handle the GT openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharshan.

It wasn’t until the 18th over that the visitors got a wicket. GT had collected 210 runs for the first wicket at that point, with both openers having scored centuries.

CSK attempted to make apologies with some good death bowling, but the damage had already been done. Fans reacted to the bad performance by venting their fury on social media. Check out some of the reactions on Twitter:

“We are bowling like our batters will get 22 overs to bat just coz there are more CSK fans in the stand,” one tweet read

“Irrespective of pitch, this was poor bowling, bad changes and poor poor fielding effort,” one fan wrote

“This Bowling lineup is one of the worst of Csk’s in the recent times without a doubt,” another wrote.

Shardul Thakur delivered a solid performance, surrendering only 25 runs in four overs. However, the same cannot be said of the remainder of the Super Kings’ bowling lineup.

Simarjeet Singh was the most costly bowler on display, surrendering 60 runs in his four overs. Daryl Mitchell also had to bowl his whole four-over limit, and he ended up giving 52 runs and going wicketless.

The Super Kings run chase began with turmoil as their top order disintegrated swiftly. Rachin Ravindras return was cut short by David Millers stellar fielding leading to his dismissal on the wrong side of the crease. Ajinkya Rahanes struggle continued adding only one run to his tally. Meanwhile skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad departed for a duck falling prey to Rashid Khans sharp catch near the boundary.

GT was 134/4 after 14 overs, with Shivam Dube and Moeen Ali in the middle.
