Dhruv Jurel representing Rajasthan Royals (RR) experienced a golden duck in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) showdown against the Punjab Kings (PBKS). Sam Curran the standin captain of PBKS dismissed the righthanded batsman during the bout held at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday May 15.
Dhruv Jurel had a critical assignment when he came into bat after 13 overs. Ravichandran Ashwin had just recently left after injecting some impetus into the innings, and the well-established Riyan Parag was on the other end.
Dhruv Jurel went on strike after Parag took a single off the second ball of the 14th over. Sam Curran came around the wicket and delivered a short delivery to the batter’s body.
The RR situation has intensified as a result of Ashwin and Jurel’s hasty dismissals. Rovman Powell, the next hitter in, was similarly dismissed after only four balls against leg-spinner Rahul Chahar.
Dhruv Jurel has made his debut in the same fixture in IPL 2023
In the 2023 season of the IPL, the wicket-keeper batter made his debut against the same opponent at same location. Back then, as an impact substitute, he scored an undefeated 32 runs off 15 deliveries in RR’s tight five-run loss.
He’s gone a long way since then, becoming a true member of the team and winning a national cap as well. However, his 2024 season has not gone as planned. Jurel has struggled greatly, scoring only 131 runs in eight innings leading up to the current match versus PBKS. Given his position on the squad, his strike rate of 135.85 is also rather low.
Jurel has been replaced by Donovan Ferreira, as RR is forced to use their impact sub-option early in the innings. As of writing, the hosts are 113/6 after 16 overs.
