The second Test between India and Australia in Delhi was the main focus of attention until an announcement during the first session on Day 1 grabbed everyone’s attention. Two days after the Chetan Sharma incident shocked Indian cricket, the BCCI chairman of selectors handed in his resignation to secretary Jay Shah. Sharma had made multiple comments about Virat Kohli

After Sharma was reappointed as the BCCI chief selector for a second term, his decision to leave was expected, following some of his comments filmed as part of the TV channel’s ‘Sting Operation’.

As Sharma’s resignation is finalised, a sign carried by a spectator in the Arun Jaitley Stadium has quickly become popular. The fan, seated in the stands, had written, “Virat Kohli is better than the BCCI,” and the photo of it has been widely shared on the web and social media.

Sharma mentioned how the former Indian captain and then-president Sourav Ganguly had different perspectives, leading to a clash of egos.

Sharma made shocking claims involving Kohli, such as that the cricketer believed he was superior to the BCCI and sought to harm Ganguly. Following Kohli’s removal as ODI captain in late 2021, Sharma asserted that Virat had not been truthful when he denied being asked to reconsider his resignation as India’s T20I captain, claiming that Ganguly had suggested as much. The ex-India bowler also suggested that Indian players take injections to compete in major tournaments while only at 70 to 80 percent fitness.

The remarks created an uproar in the Indian cricket media. Even though the team or players have not released a statement about it, according to BCCI sources, everyone has lost trust in Sharma due to his surprising statements.

Despite this, Virat Kohli, playing his first Test match at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground in six years, has been greatly welcomed upon returning to his home base, including by the fan with the sign. Before the Test match, Virat Kohli drove himself to the stadium and generated wild excitement when he drove away in his Porsche after his practice session.
