Former Indian fast bowler, Chetan Sharma, has been re-appointed as the Chairman of the Senior Selection Committee of the BCCI (The Board of Control of Cricket in India). In November 2022 BCCI sacked its selection committee after Indian Cricket Team’s performance in T20 International World Cup. Ever since then, many names were surfacing for the job, making the entire scenario quite interesting.

The BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), received around 600 applications for these positions. CAC, which comprised Ashok Malhotra, Sulakshana Naik, and Jatin Paranjpe finalized 11 names for personal interviews for this 5-member selection panel.

Meet the New Selectors

  1. Chetan Sharma

The former Indian fast bowler, Chetan Sharma has taken over the position of the Chairman of the committee in December 2020 and is the only member that has been retained. He served his 2-year long tenure and re-applied for this position. Even though there were no major achievements during his tenure, the board found him the most suitable person for this position.

  • Salil Ankola

The former Indian fast bowler and actor Salil Ankola has also served as the Chairman of the Mumbai Cricket Association’s Senior Selection Committee. During Ankola’s term, Mumbai Cricket Team won Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy and also played in the finals of the Ranji Trophy. He will be looking after the selection from the West Zone.

  • Shiv Sunder Das

The former Indian batter, Shiv Sunder Das will replace Debashish Mohanty in the committee and will look after the East Zone. Das was the batting coach for the Indian Women’s Cricket Team till ICC Women’s World Cup 2022.

  • Subroto Banerjee

Former Indian fast bowler Subroto Banerjee has been coaching Indian bowlers Umesh Yadav and Arjun Tendulkar. Banerjee has also worked with the IPL team Mumbai Indians as a fast-bowling coach. He will be looking after the Central Zone.

  • S Sharath

S Sharath formerly played for the Tamil Nadu cricket team. He was the Chairman of the Junior Selection Team and during his term, the ICC Under-19 team won the World Cup. It is believed that due to his experience and expertise in the selection of the junior team, BCCI has invited him to apply for this position.
