Indian Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has made a highly forgettable return to playing XI for the second T20 International against Sri Lanka. On Thursday, January 5th, 2023 2nd T20 International was played between India and Sri Lanka at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune, where Sri Lanka won by 16 runs.

Created a record of No Ball

Arshdeep Singh was making a comeback after an illness due to which he could not play the first T20 International. Unfortunately, he was finding it difficult to get his rhythm and created a record unwanted by every bowler. The Left-arm pacer has created a record of bowling 5 no-balls in a T20 International. He has become the 2nd bowler to bowl 5 no balls in a T20 International after New Zealand cricketer Hamish Rutherford.

Making it easy for Sri Lanka

Singh was seen struggling to find his form and bowled only one over in the first 18 overs of Sri Lanka’s innings, where he bowled 3 no balls consecutively and leaked 19 runs. He was brought to bowl the 19th over, where he again bowled 2 no balls and leaked 18 runs. In the 19th over, Suryakumar Yadav took a heroic catch of Dasun Shanaka, who was playing on 30 off 14, but it was Sri Lankan fans that were celebrating because Arshdeep had overstepped! Again. This led to a free hit for 6 by Dasun Shanaka. Just 2 balls after the reprieve to Sri Lankan Skipper Shanaka, Arshdeep overstepped the crease again, leading to another free hit. It is to be noted that Dasun Sanaka scored 56 off 22 and helped Sri Lanka score past 200.

Shivam Mavi and Umran Malik also bowled one no-ball each, making India’s total no-ball tally for the match 7, which definitely helped Sri Lanka to make their way towards winning the match.
