Virat Kohli was irritated when Mohammad Rizwan took his time marking guard and striking as he stepped in to bat during India’s match against Pakistan on Saturday (October 14). The high-octane duel will take place at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.

Mohammad Rizwan came on in the 13th over after Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq was dismissed by Hardik Pandya. The wicket-keeper batsman then took his time getting ready for the ball, keeping spinner Hardik Pandya and the fielders in suspense.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma was noticeably irritated by the delay, which he expressed to the umpire at the non-striker’s end. Virat Kohli, who was fielding in the cover zone, exhibited his annoyance by gesticulating towards an imaginary watch in his hand.

Team India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. Abdullah Shafique (20) and Imam-ul-Haq (36) got their team off to a good start but were unable to convert their chances.

Babar Azam (50) and Mohammad Rizwan (49) joined forces at 73/2 and pieced together an 82-run partnership to keep things stable. At that point, Pakistan appeared to be in a solid position and on pace for a respectable total.

Mohammed Siraj ended the dangerous stand in the 30th over by removing Babar Azam. From there, Pakistan’s batting line-up crumbled submissively. After Babar’s demise, they lost all of their remaining wickets after contributing only 46 runs. Pakistan was dismissed for 191 in 42.5 overs.

With the exception of Shardul Thakur, all bowlers for India took two wickets each. At the innings break, Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav reflected on his spell:

“I knew where to bowl and it was a difficult wicket to bowl on. It was on the slower side. I was just focussing on the length and trying to keep it wicket-to-wicket, varying my pace and bowling my variations.

“I was bowling really well, not giving them too much width. Rizwan did not sweep me at all, so I tried to keep it wicket-to-wicket and wanted him to play a bad shot.”
