1. Sir Don Bradman – 309

Sir Don Bradman’s record of 309 runs in a single day during a test match against England at Leeds in 1930 remains unbeaten. Australia scored 566 in the first innings, while England made 391, and they were forced to follow on after their innings. England managed 95 runs with the loss of three wickets in their second innings, resulting in a stalemate.

2. David Warner – 244

David Warner’s 244 runs on the first day of a test match against New Zealand in Perth is second on the list. Australia scored 559 in the first innings, and New Zealand posted 624 runs with a double century by Ross Taylor and a century by Kane Williamson. In the second innings, Australia scored 385, and the game ended in a draw with New Zealand at 104-2 on Day 5.

3. Herschelle Gibbs – 228

In 2003, Herschelle Gibbs smashed 228 runs at a strike rate of 95 on Day 1 of a test match against Pakistan. His performance helped South Africa post 620 in the first innings, with a partnership of 368 runs alongside Graeme Smith, who made 151. Pakistan failed to respond adequately, being all-out for 252 and 226 in the first and second innings, respectively, resulting in an innings victory for South Africa under captain Shaun Pollock.
