In advance of the 2023 World Cup, the leaders of all 10 teams spoke with the media and broadcasters earlier today at a special ceremony in Ahmedabad. Temba Bavuma, who was representing South Africa, attended the meeting.

A picture of Bavuma dozing off during the Captains Meet quickly became popular on social media. The South African captain quickly clarified, though, that he had not slept off and that the misleading image had been created by the camera angle.

“I blame the camera angle, I wasn’t sleeping,” Bavuma tweeted in response to The Barmy Army, who shared a photo of him sleeping.

For the first time ever, Bavuma will lead the Proteas in the ICC ODI World Cup this year. On Saturday afternoon (October 7), at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium, the South African team will open its 2023 World Cup campaign against the previous winners Sri Lanka.

In the previous edition of the 50-over World Cup held in India, South Africa emerged as the leaders in their group. It will certainly be intriguing to observe whether they can replicate a similar performance this year.

Temba Bavuma’s team competed against New Zealand in a warm-up game before the 2023 World Cup. The D/L system was used by the Blackcaps to win the game by seven runs.
