A Grade-II injury in his ankle would keep Team India batsman Suryakumar Yadav out of the game for several months. On December 16, during the third Twenty20 International match between South Africa and the Wanderers in Johannesburg, the interim captain sustained an injury.

During the match’s opening innings, Suryakumar Yadav struck his fourth T20I century, tying the record, and helped India reach 201-7 in 20 overs. In the third over of the second innings, he lost his balance and injured his ankle. While retrieving the ball that Reeza Hendricks had struck off of Muhammad Siraj, he hurt his ankle.

After the medical crew arrived to check his condition, he had to be dragged off the field by the boundary ropes.

During the post-match presentation after the Men in Blue bowled out the hosts for 95 runs, the ace hitter spoke about the injury. In Suryakumar’s absence, vice-captain Ravindra Jadeja assumed leadership responsibilities.

“I am good. I am walking, so good,” Suryakumar had said about his injury after the series

Suryakumar Yadav received a scan following his return from South Africa, according to the Indian Express. He is predicted to be totally fit by the first week of February, based on the results.

“He will take some time to recover. He will have to report to the National Cricket Academy later to do his rehabilitation. He is surely going to miss the Afghanistan series,” source in the Indian board informed.

The Afghanistan series turns out to be the final bilateral T20I series before the ICC tournament, therefore it’s conceivable that the batter will be seen in Indian colors just before the T20 World Cup 2024. The three-match home series between Team India and the Afghans is slated to start on January 11.

In terms of his T20 World Cup preparations, he will be ready for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) in good time. His season in 2023 was historic, and he will be crucial to the Mumbai Indians (MI) as they get ready for a new era under Hardik Pandya.

Initially, Suryakumar Yadav was appointed captain for the home series against Australia. The No. 1 rated T20I hitter led Team India to a 4-1 victory over the Men in Yellow, with Rohit Sharma’s T20 future uncertain and Hardik Pandya recovering from an injury.

He also kept his captaincy for the South Africa tour. After weather ruined the series opener in Durham, he led India to a 1-1 tie.
