In IPL 2023, Rohit Sharma has failed to score runs consistently for the Mumbai Indians. In his last five IPL innings, the MI skipper has been got out in single digits.

Despite playing on some batting-friendly surfaces, Sharma’s past five innings resulted in scores of 2, 3, 0, 0 and 7. Looking at his entire IPL 2023 figures, Rohit has scored 191 runs in 11 innings. His best score is 65, and his strike rate is just around 125.

Rohit Sharma is a great IPL player and among the top run-scorers. However, the Mumbai Indians captain has had a tough season so far.

Some fans have drawn similarities between Rohit Sharma’s IPL 2023 performance with RCB’s Virat Kohli in IPL 2022. Kohli has done well for RCB in 2023, but he failed to produce runs consistently with his team last year.

We will now examine at three similarities between Virat Kohli’s IPL 2022 and Rohit Sharma’s IPL 2023 forms in this listicle.

1) Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma recorded consecutive ducks

It is strange to see batsmen like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma score 0 in consecutive IPL matches. Both batsmen have smashed some of the top bowling units in tournament history, but Virat did it in 2022 and Rohit did it in 2023.

During the previous season, Virat lost his wicket for a golden duck in league stage matches against the Lucknow Super Giants and the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Meanwhile, Rohit was unable to open his account in the IPL 2023 matches earlier this month against the Punjab Kings and the Chennai Super Kings.

2) MS Dhoni’s masterplan worked against Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma

MS Dhoni is one of cricket’s most smart captains. He has an understanding in his opponents’ strengths and weaknesses. When RCB faced CSK in the IPL 2022, Dhoni shifted a fielder to deep square leg. Kohli was caught out in the same location on the next delivery.

Similarly, when MI faced CSK in Chepauk in IPL 2023, Dhoni planned the field in such a way that Rohit would attempt a lap shot. The Mumbai Indians skipper tried the same thing, but couldn’t time it well and ended up giving Ravindra Jadeja an easy catch.

3) Got out after starting well in multiple innings

Virat Kohli had a strong start with his batting in the previous season. He got 12 runs off seven balls against KKR, a 14-ball 20 against Punjab Kings, and a 25 against Lucknow Super Giants. However, he lost his wicket just as he seemed to be settled in the middle.

Similarly, Rohit has scored 21, 20, and 28 in three of his knocks this season. In each of those innings, his strike rate was over 150, but he was out before reaching the 30-run mark.
