RP Singh the former quick bowler chooses Arshdeep Singh the leftarm pace specialist as the preferred partner for Jasprit Bumrah in executing crucial death overs during the 2024 T20 World Cup. The highly anticipated global T20 tournament kicks off today in the vibrant settings of the West Indies and the USA commencing on June 1.

Siraj has recently been India’s go-to bowler in all formats, succeeding Jasprit Bumrah. However, he was erratic in the just finished Indian Premier League (IPL) and lacked variety at the end. Arshdeep, on the other hand, has a few tricks under his sleeve, notably an excellent yorker.

RP Singh feels the wicket in New York will be slower, which will benefit Arshdeep’s cuts. He also suggested that Bumrah bowl three of his four overs during the second part of the innings.

Speaking at a promotional event, the former left-arm pacer stated:

“Death bowling is really important in T20 cricket. Bumrah may bowl three overs in the death overs. He is our mainstay there. My preference alongside Bumrah in the death is Arshdeep over Siraj because of the variations he has. I think Siraj can be impactful in a game when he is bowling with the new ball. Otherwise, it should be Bumrah and Arshdeep.”

Arshdeep Singh had a decent IPL 2024 campaign with the Punjab Kings, taking 19 wickets in 14 games. While his economy rate of more than 10 presents a bleak image, it was primarily due to his encounter with Impact Players at the end.

RP Singh added:

“If Shivam Dube bowls too, then it will be an added advantage for India ahead. Shivam may not play some matches initially but whenever he plays, he will perform well and score runs for India.”

Hardik Pandya took 11 wickets in 14 games, with the best figures of 3/31. However, he was called to task, scoring 10.75 runs per over. Hardik would look to do well for India in the T20 World Cup.
